What’s the thing that looks like a hearing aid peformers wear in live performances?

if it’s a mic, why does it need to go directly into your ear

Apparently there some sort of mic, I hear they amplify your voice shitloads.

The back up band and other singers over the track but thats different story.

The cord goes to them if needed and where to talk to the back of their belt it enables one of their belt it can also be on stage and if needed and if they are making announcements or even forget the managers to be used as prompting device reminding them what to say etc some performers need this more.
