Why do hearing aid batteries last only about a week, but other small batteries can last more than a year?

My wristwatch battery usually lasts over a year and the 10 year batteries in my home smoke alarms have made it over three years, so far. Is the very short life of hearing aid batteries because of planned obsolescence for greater sales?

The processors in the hearing aids have whole lot more battery power the hearing aids have to do than just make second hand tick they.
